Hello.

A man, who being given a glass of whiskey, says, 'I thought you lot drank vodka' and gets an answer 'Whiskey is the new vodka'.Can I paraphrase the last sentence as 'Whiskey is the new replacement (unique) for vodka' while if he had said 'Whiskey is a new vodka' he would have meant that whiskey is considered as vodka but there are another drinks that can be considered as vodka as well.

Have I got this right?

Thanks, Alex.
