Hi, my English friend, who isn't a teacher, said it's ok to write/say a date like this:

My friends came to England on the 19th of September 2006.

and that I can also write/say it like this although it's less formal:

My friends came to England on 19th September 2006.

Then my teacher at the academy told me I should not write "the 19th of September 2006" although I can use this when I'm speaking but that I should only write it as "19th September 2006".

Can anyone tell me who is correect please?

You can certainly write it out the long way, if you want to.

I do not think you would write "19th September 2006," you would write "19 September 2006."

You can say or write whichever you like. They are equally correct, and your friend is right. (BrE)

Whether you write "19 September 2006" or "19th September 2006" or "the 19th of September 2006", if I read it out loud, I will say "The nineteenth of September two thousand and six" (BrE).

I would say, "The nineteenth of September, two thousand and six", but I would write only:

19 September, 2006
or
19th September 2006.

I have never seen 'the' and 'of' in writing, except in the written version of dialogue.
