It is from a novel(Lamb by Christopher Moore) I am reading.

Does it mean you can only eat so much(an unspecified but limited amount of, some amount of) white cake (and no more than that)?

Archangel Stephan : "Go get the good news, Raziel. Bring me back some chocolate."
Raziel : "Chocolate?"
Archangel Stephan : "It's a dirt-dweller snack. You'll like it. Satan invented it."
Raziel : "Devil's food?"
Archangel Stephan : "You can only eat so much white cake, my friend."

And I was confused why Archangel Stephan mentions white cake out of the blue.
When I googled Devil's food, I found out that Devil's food cake is chocolate cake and Angel food cake is simple white cake.

So I guessed that Stephan wanted to say that white cake is so so whereas chocolate cake is so delicious that you can't keep your hands off of it and figuratively that Devil is tempting and pleasurable. Did I guess right?

If you are constantly eating white cake, you will eventually tire of it and want something different.

Thanks SoothingDave.

Now the whole conversation makes simple and clear sense to me.
