Context: Matt is an American. I added him on my social media four years ago. I thought he speaks English and Chinese because he typed Chinese. But these four years we never talked to each other.Today, in my Cantonese group, someone added Matt to the Cantonese group. I was surprised to see him and I @him by saying:

You never told me you speak Cantonese.

With a smile after that, meaning it’s great to see you here too.

Is my sentence natural?

See above.

On second thoughts, I think "You never told me you spoke Cantonese" is correct. Am I right?

Could you please explain why my sentence is correct?
