"When, in August, Vince booked what he later described as ‘a young, dinky little glam band from Sydney’ called AC/DC, Bon again offered to help. Both he and Vince knew George Young, of course, from their days in The Valentines. Vince had always admired George and Harry’s ability to craft a commercial pop tune."
Mick Wall, "Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be".
Do the words "young" and "dinky" mean the same here? Why use both?

Thanks. So, in the book, does "dinky" means mean "inferior"? https://www.fastslang.com/dinky
Note my corrections above. Note the correct word order for a question.

In BrE, I've only ever heard "dinky" used to mean "very small". That's the origin of the brand name "Dinky Toys".
Having read those slang definitions, I'd say it's being used to mean "insignificant" - a band of little importance.

I've always used 'dinky' as a disparaging term for something small and inferior (due to size). It's frequently collocated with 'little', which upon reflection does seem kind of redundant. I guess 'dinky' adds a strictly negative connotation that 'little' alone doesn't necessarily carry.

Interestingly, Webster claims that it can have a positive connotation of 'attractively small and cute' in BrE.

I think in the OP it refers to the fact that at the time, AC/DC was just a relatively unheard of band - small in the sense that they weren't a big, major act like they'd eventually become.

I love that expression. It's so fun to say, especially if you can couple it with 'podunk'.

For instance my hometown is a rinky dink podunk wide spot on the road.
