Actions and adverbs of manner: guessing games

Warmer

Ask each other questions like “What’s your name?” and “What’s your favourite fruit?” as you pass a puppet, a Lego figure, etc between you.

When you have no more questions or when your teacher tells you to, take turns asking “What is it/ he/ she doing?” while you make that figure do actions. Continue doing the action until someone guesses correctly.

Game 1 – actions guessing game 1

Continue asking “What is he/ she/ it doing?” while the figure does actions in the list below. Secretly roll a dice, covering it with your other hand, then do an action next to that number below. If there is more than one action on that line, you can choose any one. If there are three dots (“…”), you can do any action that can go in that gap. Continue doing the action until someone guesses correctly.

  1. jump
  2. run
  3. walk
  4. speak/ talk/ whisper/ shout
  5. sing
  6. play tennis/ play soccer/ play…

Game 2 – actions guessing game 2

Continue asking “What is he/ she/ it doing?” while the figure does actions, but this time choosing from the six actions below. To choose, secretly roll a dice, covering it with your other hand, then do an action next to the matching number from the list below. If there is more than one action on that line, you can choose any one you like. If there are three dots (“…”), you can do any action you like that can go in that gap. Continue doing the action until someone guesses correctly.

Do something similar, but this time secretly choosing one of the adverbs below with a dice, choosing an action which could go with it, and asking “How is he/ she/ it …ing (…)?” about that action as the figure does it that way. If no one can guess, do the action in a more extreme way and/ or do the same with a different action and the same adverb.
