IELTS Writing Task 2 on IELTS on computer Listening

Discuss your opinions on the topics below with one or two other students. Don’t think about how you would write an answer yet, but do try to stick closely to answering the questions that are there. Your teacher will tell you if you can use sample tests etc to help with your discussion (or if you should just use what you know and remember about the test).

Some people recommend reading as far ahead as you can in the Listening paper when the test instructions have finished and you are allowed to turn to Part One (before the Part One recording starts).

Write about the following topic:

Compare doing two of the following kinds of listening as a way of improving your ability to cope with IELTS Listening:

  • listening to the news (radio news, news podcasts, etc)
  • listening to other non-fiction radio or podcasts (documentaries, etc)
  • listening to or watching university lectures
  • listening to or watching PowerPoint presentations such as those from TED.com
  • doing lots of IELTS Listening tests
  • doing tasks where you listen carefully for every word like dictation or shadowing

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Ask about any questions above which you couldn’t understand, couldn’t answer or would like to hear other people’s opinions on. Then plan some of the writing above.

Choose one of the tasks that you made a plan for and write the introduction (including describing that plan in the final sentence of the introduction). Then compare your plan and introduction with another group, giving feedback on their plan and introduction.
