Times with Present Perfect and Past Simple things in common

Work in pairs. Choose one of the times in the list below. Give information about yourself and ask questions about your partner related to that time until you find that is true for both of you. Negative sentences that are true for both of you are also okay. Continue talking about that time until you find something that you share or until it is clear you can’t find anything in common, then do the same for different times below.

Useful language for talking about similarities and differences

Ø  Me too!/ I… too.

Ø  Me neither./ I… not… either.

Ø  Really? I…

When your teacher stops you, share one thing that you have in common with your partner and see if anyone else in the class is the same.

Ask about any times above you aren’t sure about, working together to make example sentences each time. Then do the presentation task on the next page.

Use these mixed answers to help with the presentation task and then to brainstorm more times that are not above

ago                                         at                                for                               in

in the last… (s)             last                              on                               since

the… before…             this                              yesterday
