Default Letter Writing Question

Hello, I need to address a letter to someone with a Ph.D. at the end of their name. Do I address it to Dr. John Doe?

You could, but John Doe, PhD would probably be better.

The best thing to to is type in the inside address as:
John Doe, PhD.
123 Sesame Street
Boston MA 02134

And the salutation as:

Dear Dr. Doe:
