email writing
Hi,
I need to write an email (to enquire about qualifications) to a university admissions office but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to use to start and finish it. Can you use dear sir/madam or is that to formal? And should I finish with yours faithfully? I know I would if writing a letter but that seems strange for an email...
What do you think I should use?

Re: email writing
If you are merely enquiring about qualifications and haven't corresponded before, I would go straight into your query, being very clear as to what you are asking about and why.
If you have a name for the Admissions Officer , then address the person [Dear Ms/Mr .......... ].
You can end with just "I look forward to hearing from you soon."
