Default official letter

This refers to addressing the teacher of an online course.
Is it appropriate if I address the teacher as Hello so and so (only the first name)

Default Re: official letter

If first names are used on the course, then it's fine for most uses, but in an official letter, I would use Dear Mr/Ms + surname.
