Helo,

Could you please tell me how to start a letter when you only know the name of the institution your letter is intended to ,but not the name of any actual person within that organization?

Dear Sir or Madam is the basic formal anonymous salutation.

However, if it is going to a particular department, you might use:

Dear Director of Admissions

or

Dear Employee Benefit Manager,
