With any writing, starting with the 5 Ws helps. For example,

Who (talk about your familiy or people you know or recently met)
What (talk about what's going on in your life)
Where (talk about where you have been)
When (talk about what you will be doing next week, month)
Why (talk about reasons behind recent/future decisions)
