| Socially Responsible Investing Two October workshops on socially responsible investing will be offered in Seattle and Bellevue, by Certified Financial Planner, Eric A. Smith, and stock broker Wade Smith. The Humane Society will sponsor the Bellevue workshop on Oct. 8. Refreshments will be served and admission is free. Socially screened investing emerged as the result of churches and pension funds that wanted to make investments consistent with their ethical values. In the last decade, however, socially responsible investing has grown from $40 Billion to over $900 billion annually. This increase has occurred because the idea has spread to many individual investors as well as other types of organizations. Smith and Smith point out that most people carefully decide which organizations to donate time and money to each year. "Why"?, they ask, shouldn't people consciously choose amongst financially sound investments that meet there ethical, environmental, and social beliefs.
