Socially screened investing emerged as a (the) result of churches and pension funds wanting (that wanted) to make investments consistent with their ethical values. In the last decade, however, socially responsible investing has grown from $40 Billion to over $900 billion annually. This increase has been possible (occurred) because the idea that has spread to many individual investors as well as other types of organizations.
