Can the underlined imply that a new medium is related to is social background? Great Depression is a bad result, not affected by radio, the example doesn't seem to be suitable.
1-3)The development of new types of media such as the Internet is a process often surrounded and enveloped by exciting events that go far beyond the new medium itself. Radio is an outstanding example of this phenomenon; while the building of this new medium would have provided enough excitement in and of itself, the accompanying social and economic times ensured it would be a time to remember throughout history. At the pinnacle of the evolution of radio as a new medium, the Great Depression occurred in the United States. This history shows that the development of radio was not disconnected from the social, political, and economic events; radio became part of the system that soon allowed millions to become involved in stock market trading with up-to-the-minute reports on stock movements.

It says that the development of new media often happens during "exciting events." The Great Depression was certainly an "exciting" time. It may not have been fun, but it was certainly not boring.

By "exciting , do you mean negative sense or postive sense or neutral one? Great Depression must have given people a lot of agony, pain, etc.

You will have noticed (should have noticed) that both the original quote and post #2 referred to it as "The Great Depression". The article is important and required.

It says here that radio did have a role in the stock market crash: radio became part of the system that soon allowed millions to become involved in stock market trading with up-to-the-minute reports on stock movements.

Like I said, it may not have been fun, but it was not boring.
