Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

Rivers in Poland and Germany are still rising as floodwater continue to threaten the region. In the eastern German state of Brandenburg, the flood alert status on Wednesday was raised to level four, the highest level, meaning that large areas beyond the river's banks could be inundated.

The fields were inundated with the heavy rain.

inundate = flood

He was inundated with invitations.

inundate = heap, fill, shower, pester

"Inundate" can, as I understand it, be used literally to mean to flood an area or figuratively to mean to overwhelm somebody with something.
