[Grammar] "A for apple" or "A is for apple"

Hi,

When teaching kids to learn english, I'd like to know which one is correct?

"A for apple" or "A is for apple"

I learnt the second way, but both of them are right.
 
If you're teaching kids, you might as well include the verb.
