We have an aspirated "h" in English, so it's "a hybrid". I think there are some people who still stick to "an hotel" because "hotel" came from the French, where the "h" isn't pronounced, but these days "a hotel" is the accepted form.

Use an only if the following word begins with a spoken vowel.

How do you spell the word hybrid?
How do you spell the word honor?

True, but the "h" at the beginning of honour isn't pronounced, so it's "an honour", but "a hybrid".

Ah, sorry! What confused me was that you asked her "How do you SPELL.....hybrid and honor?" not "How do you SAY them?" :-D

Maybe I should have written "pronounce" or just "say". :)

i know that the 'h' of honor isn't pronounced .. i heard it at the movies ;-) .. but i wasn't sure about hybrid
