A player owing to injuries to certain players.

Please tell me what does this sentence mean "owing to injuries to certain players"? It is a sentence from "Times of India" newspaper.

It's not a sentence, so we can't say what it means.

The Times of India is available online. Can you give us the link to the article please?

The quoted text is part of a sentence. Please quote the entire sentence with a link to its source.

Owing to injuries to certain players, they don't think the team will make the playoffs this year.

There's a sentence for you. The phrase in question means those injuries are the cause of something.

Just to be clear, tufguy, I'll repeat GS's words with my emphasis added:

Please quote the entire sentence with a link to its source.

(I have a small bet with myself - the word 'batsman' will appear in the sentence.)

The Tamil Nadu cricketer, who was the part of India's world cup strategy primarily as the second-choice wicket keeper and played the last couple of matches as batsman owing to injuries to certain players, will not be Dhoni's replacement in the larger context.

I think owing to injuries means "having injuries" or "struggling with injuries". Am I correct? If I am correct then what does this sentence "batsman owing to injuries to certain players" mean?

1) You asked about the meaning of a sentence that did not exist and made out that it did. Do you still not know what a sentence is?
2) You took a fragment of a real sentence and changed one of the words. Why did you do this?

This is unacceptable, and in my opinion bordering on rude. You've been using the forum long enough to know that you cannot do things like this.

Why didn't you present the phrase in its natural context, as you did in post #7?

I thought that would be enough to know the meaning of that phrase but sorry for that.

Well, I won my bet with myself about the word 'batsman' (post #5). You wasted our time, tufguy, by providing inaccurate and incomplete information. Please try to be more careful in future.

No. "Owing to" has its normal meaning, similar to because of/as a result of/due to.

"batsman owing to injuries to certain players" is not a sentence, as you were told in post #2. "owing to injuries to certain players" is subordinate to the clause "The Tamil Nadu cricketer... played the last couple of matches as batsman", not to the word "the batsman".

Sorry, I still don't understand the meaning. "Owing to injuries" means because of injuries but what does "owing to injuries to certain players" mean? Please explain it to me.

I'm still waiting for a response to my question in post #3.

Tufguy, I am convinced that you don't bother to read all the responses. In post #6 I did to the best of my limited ability explain the phrase to you.

I don't follow cricket, so I was speaking in general terms. Did you ignore my post because it didn't mention cricket?

What phrase?

Before you do anything else, follow these instructions:

1) Answer the question in post #3.
2) Answer the question in post #15.
3) Answer the three questions in post #9.
4) Answer the question in this post.

Please stop breaking the forum rules, and wasting everybody's time.

No, actually I couldn't understand that properly. Sorry, that you felt that your response was ignored but I really didn't understand that properly.

You can't be serious.

So "played the last couple of matches as batsman owing to injuries to certain players" it means that player played the last couple of matches as batsman because of injuries to certain players. Am I correct?

As I already mentioned, I don't follow cricket. However, if a player gets injured that player is going to be replaced by somebody else. If that player (the injured player) is a key player on the team it might affect the team's performance. It just makes sense.
