Are you worried about them?

Are you worried for them?

Do these sentences convey the same meaning? Are "about" and "for" interchangeable in these sentences?

If you are worried about somebody you are seriously concerned about their welfare.

If you are worried about them, you could mean that they may pose a threat, or that they may be in danger. On the other hand, if you are worried for them, you can only mean that they may be in danger. So the meaning may be the same or may differ, and more context is needed in order to decide.

I don"t think "about" and "for" are interchangeable there.

To be worried "for" somebody may be BrE rather than AmE.
