Hello, teachers.

I've found the following:

Pragmatics is concerned with the study of meaning as communicated by a speaker (or writer) and interpreted by a listener (or reader). It has more to do with the analysis of what people mean by what they say than what the words or phrases in those statements might mean by themselves.

What does the phrase "as communicated ... and interpreted..." mean in this case?
Which of the following sentence structures does the phrase have?

... the study of meaning as (being) communicated ... and (being) interpreted...

Or

... the study of meaning as (it is) communicated ... and (it is) interpreted ...


If both are wrong, would you let me know the true sentence structure of the phrase?
