As usual, I try to keep my question short & simple.
Is the 'was' optional below?

The 2 warring counties declared an armistice yesterday, as (was) agreed.

Thank you to all of you.

Panicmonger,

(1) As is one word that confuses me, too.

(2) I know what a serious student you are, so I thought that I would

pass along some more information -- which you probably already know.

(3) I think that if you analyzed your sentence completely, it would be:

The two warring countries declared an armistice yesterday,

as [it was] agreed [to declare].

(4) I base my opinion on this example from English Review Grammar

by Walter Kay Smart:

The performance will be given as [it was] advertised [to be given].

(5) If you analyze it as a complete sentence, then it is easier to

understand that as in that sentence is being used as an conjunction

connecting two sentences.

Thank you, TheParser.
Although I'm not an English native, I love English.

Have you heard of language awareness before?

Experts said one will realize it when one learns other non-mother-tongue languages.

Thank you for your kind note.

No, I have not ever heard of "language awareness."

I do know, however, that I have learned more about my native

language (English) while studying Mandarin and Spanish.

Thank you again.
