Both are grammatical. They have different meanings. Neither is likely.

Did you make them up? What is the context?

Hi there, which one is correct?

This is not the right question, Banglardon.

Firstly, it appears to assume that one and only one of the two sentences you've made up is correct. Secondly, it presumes that we know what it is you mean to say. Thirdly, it isn't going to help you learn about the usage differences between the two bold phrases, which is obviously what you really want to know.

Please make an effort to help members respond usefully by telling us exactly what you're trying to learn.

I am not a teacher.

I had no idea that ‘in the night’ is grammatical or accepted although I have heard ‘ In the middle of the night’.
May I ask in what circumstances ‘in the night’ can be used?
What are the different meanings in the two sentences provided in the OP?

Everybody should bookmark the Fraze. It website for future reference.

I still can’t figure out the differences ...
Should I take ‘in the night’ for ‘in the (late) evening’?
Can you dumb it down for me? I really need some extra explanation.

"In the night", in general, means "at some point during the night". There is no definitive definition of "night". Some people might start using "night" at 8pm or 9pm, others not until 11pm or later.

If I say "I heard two cats fighting in the night", most people would assume that it happened at some point after I went to bed and, possibly, after I went to sleep (in which case, the cat fight woke me up).
