Is there a diference between this verbs or they mean exactly the same?

To wake (up) and awaken are the same.

I woke up at six. I was woken up at six. I was awakened at six. I awakened at six. ( I would not use the latter.)

I was about to say that Barb's last sentence was unacceptable in BrE. Fortunately I checked up in the dictionary. I can now confirm that all four of Barb's sentences are acceptable in BrE, though awaken is labelled formal.

Perhaps we can add that "awake" is mainly used as an adjective, while "wake" is only used as a verb.

Neither an English native speaker nor a teacher.
