[General] be on the point of saying/ be about to say

Dear teachers,

Would you share with me your opinion concerning the following two sentences?

She was on the point of saying something but thought better of it.
She was about to say something but thought better of it.

They mean pretty much the same.

I'm not familiar with "on the point of saying." I would use the preposition "at" to create the phrase "at the point of saying."

Otherwise, I agree that the meaning of the two phrases is basically identical.
