'because, as' usage

Dear teachers

Are these sentences grammatically right?

He was elected president because, as the secretary said, he proved to be more than qualified to run the company.
The value of $ 40,000 was chosen because, as the data suggest, that is the ammount of money that makes people change their minds.
The temperature of 71 ºF was chosen because, as our mother advised, that is the best temperature to keep the house comfy.

Grammatically yes; the spelling of 'amount' could be improved though and the logic of the first one is a bit questionable.

He was elected president because, as the secretary said, he proved to be more than qualified to run the company.

Two problems:

• I'm not sure many elections depend on just qualification to run something (but on first reading I mistakenly assumed it was a presidential election (a national one)
• The verb 'proved' makes the logic very iffy. Was he or wasn't he? And if he proved later to be best qualified (when? After the election?), what did his actual ability have to do with the fact that he was elected?
