"The story that enticed me was headlined: ‘I Went Off Grid At The End Of My Garden To See If I’d Cope After Armageddon.’ It was accompanied by a picture of the author in woollen hat and anorak, looking glum, superimposed onto a still from one of those post-apocalyptic movies where all the ruined tower blocks are now overgrown with weeds". Could you please explain why "hat" and "anorak" are without articles here?

@Vladv1 I don't know how many times we have to tell you what makes an appropriate thread title. Yet again, you put a précis of your actual question as the title, instead of the relevant part of the sentence you're asking us to look at. I've changed it. Please show us that you're taking notice of our advice and make sure all your future titles fit the pattern.

I think the best way for you to understand this is to consider the following as a pattern used to describe someone's attire:

(dressed) in A and [in] B

Neither A nor B, if they are singular countable nouns, requires an article as they normally would. The word 'dressed' may or may not be used. The first 'in' must be used but the second must not. Finally, there should really be a minimum of two elements A and B. We don't really use this pattern when there's just one element.
