We "put out" a candle. Otherwise it eventually "goes out" by itself.

We often blow out a candleor blow a candle out. We can also snuff out a candle, snuff a candle out, or simply snuff a candle. If we are being formal, we can extinguish it.

Both I and my flatmate are sure there is a word for this, but neither of us can think of it. Mind you, nor can Google so maybe we're imagining it.

Not as far as I know. That's including in 'snuffing (out)'.
