***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Good morning.

(1) I don't know how you used that phrase.

(2) But here is one possible explanation:

TOM: I'm in big trouble. I need $100 right now. Could you lend me a hundred bucks, please?

MONA: What? You expect ME to lend you a hundred dollars? Every day you treat me rudely. You never compliment me. You never thank me. And now that you're in trouble, you come to me for money. Listen here, my friend. YOU HAVE GOT ANOTHER THING COMING!!! = You are not going to get the 100 dollars from me. You are going to get ANOTHER (an + other = one other) thing. That "other thing" is NOTHING! Not one penny from me.

Thank you for your question.

It's a song title:
You've Got Another Thing Comin'

One life i'm gonna live it up
I'm takin' flight i said i'll never get enough
Stand tall i'm young and kinda proud
I'm on top as long as the music's loud

If you think i'll sit around as the world goes by
You're thinkin' like a fool cause it's a case of do or die
Out there is a fortune waitin' to be had
You think i'll let it go you're mad
You've got another thing comin'....Judas Priest - You've Got Another Thing Comin' - text písn? - Lyricon.net

You're right, so how would you translate it now?;-)

I would refer you again to the illuminating post of the TheParser. I believe that says it all. And if you think I'm going to give you a better explanation than that...you've got another thing coming!

(Please take that in the spirit of good humor with which it was intended. It is, indeed, a somewhat unusual expression. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.)

The idiom is "You've got another think coming". I BrE it's a response to "I think that....", it means "I am going to tell you something that will make you think differently". It is also used in this sort of context:
"If you think you are going out tonight, you've got another think coming!" Said perhaps to a teenager who should be studying.

Thank you for this. I had no idea. I suspect that this is, in fact, the origin of an expression that we have now changed to, "You've got another thing coming." Is this another case of an expression changing as it migrates across the Atlantic?
