What expression is used to refer to employees at the same company taking their vacation in the same month? Collective vacations?

In the UK, we don't have such fixed holiday months as they do in some countries.

Nor in the United States and Canada. However, some companies shut down for a fixed period every year. I'm not aware of a term to describe the employees who benefit from this system.

... the employees who benefit from this system.

I wouldn't consider it a benefit if I were forced to take annual leave for that period, nor if I were not paid when the company was shut. That situation cropped up at my previous job, where the manager decided that we would close on all Bank Holidays (which are generally on a Monday in the UK). My two colleagues who work on Mondays were forced to take annual leave every Bank Holiday, meaning that they effectively lost 8 days of their annual leave allocation even though they were prevented from coming into work on those days because it was closed. All the employees got together and petitioned the manager to change the system, which he did. We're still closed every Bank Holiday but the people who work Mondays now simply get the day off (with no pay, of course!) but do not have to take annual leave.

I don't see how the company could decide to close on a holiday and expect you to use a vacation day! That's ridiculous.

As for the original question, I would say something like the office/plant/factory is on shutdown.

I couldn't agree more! The owner/manager said that he inherited the system from the previous owner but we pointed out that that didn't mean he couldn't change it!

The company I'm thinking of closes for two weeks each summer. The employees receive paid vacation for the period, in addition to their individual paid vacation. I don't think this is common in the United States.

Now that's a benefit!

It sounds illegal to me.

Nothing illegal about it. The manager can dictate the terms.

Where I grew up there was a holiday fortnight know by the name of the city- the Leicester Fortnight, as most factories closed at the same time.
