Hello, is the expression "come to expect" always the same in every tense?

For example, I came across this sentence in an exam book: We have "come to expect" that all news will be at the touch of a button.

I thought that the correct way of using that phrase would be: We have came to expect that....

Thank you

You cannot use "came" after "have".

Depending on context, you can use "came to expect", "have come to expect", "had come to expect".

You cannot use "came" after "have". After an auxiliary verb, we use the base form of the verb.

Depending on context, you can use "came to expect", "have come to expect", "had come to expect".

But, is not present perfect? Like "We have tried to do our best".

Don't forget that not all verbs are constructed in the same way in different tenses.

I come
I came
I have come

I try
I tried
I have tried.

"To come" is an irregular verb.

Oh my! I would have bet everything I have that the past participle of "come" was "came"!

Thank you

Sorry, I made an error. With present and past perfect we use the past participle, not the base form. In this case the form is the same, but my posting was incorrect.

Don't worry Mike, although I racked my brain trying to figure out what you meant. :p

I was doing two things at one time, so I only had a half a brain. :-?
