Crawling night

Can we use the verb 'crawl' when we talk about the coming night?

Example:
The night was crawling slowly.

I suppose it's okay, if you're trying to use it in a poetic or figurative sense. Otherwise, it sounds a bit odd.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to suggest in my book.

If you mean that the night is progressing (moving) slowly, it's fine. However, it doesn't mean what you said in post #1 - "the coming night". That means that the night hasn't even started yet.
