Hello,

I'd like to find the right English word meaning 'a local building where people go to concerts or to see plays and exhibitions'.

Is it a culture centre or a cultural centre?

Thank you,
heyt

Sorry, heyt - there's no answer to that.

It could be either of those or something different altogether, depending on what the administrators of the particular centre choose to call it.

However, either of your alternatives is understandable and acceptable.

I agree both are correct, but "cultural centre" is by far the more common name for that kind of building. If you look at the examples where "culture centre" is used, it is usually part of a longer name, like "Art & Culture Centre" or "Islamic Culture Centre".

Note that in American English, "centre" is spelt "center".

For reference, I used these two queries in Google:

+"culture centre" OR +"cuture center"
+"cultural centre" OR +"cutural center"
