Hi there,

What is the prep that follows the word "data"?
For example, the police kept data on everyone who has been arrested.
Can this be said as "The police kept data about everyone who has been arrested."?

I have been using "about", and it is likely to be incorrect, because I have just come across a prep "on" that follows "data" in the sentence I provided here as an example.

I think "on" is more common, but "about" is possible. Please don't use "prep" for "preposition".
