Last night, a radio host shared his life in Japan and talked about a rumor related to Japanese drifters. One day, a woman who lived alone at her apartment noticed that her electricity and water bills had increased a lot recently. Very soon, some food in her fridge also seemed to be disappeared. She didn't understand what had happened so she set a camera at home. After a week, she watched the recordings and found out that a ragged guy came out of the bathroom and ate her food and went back. Shocked, she called the police immediately. The police officer suspected that the woman sometimes didn't lock the door so some drifter went into her apartment and lived above the ceiling trapdoor in her bathroom! That story was told by the host's Japanese colleague to remind the host to lock the door whenever he goes out.

I'm not sure I'd call this a "rumour" (BrE spelling). It sounds like an urban myth. If it's actually true, it's not a rumour at all. It's a fact.
The story goes that one day, a woman who lived alone at her in an apartment noticed that her electricity and water bills had increased a lot recently. Very soon after, some food in her fridge also seemed to be have disappeared. She didn't understand what had happened so she set up a camera. at home. After A week later, she watched the recordings and found out that saw a ragged guy came coming out of the her bathroom. and He ate her food and went back into the bathroom. Shocked, she called the police immediately. The police officer suspected that the woman sometimes didn't lock the her doors so and [that] some drifter went had gone into her apartment and lived had been living above the ceiling trapdoor in her bathroom!

That The story was told by the host's Japanese colleague to remind the host him to lock the door his doors whenever he goes out.
See above.

I would simply say the food disappeared. That is, I would say that unless I wasn't sure the food was there in the first place.

The woman didn't remember if she had eaten the food or not. She just felt it.

That's interesting. She wasn't totally sure if she had eaten food or not, but she suspected that somebody had taken it.

It's different with me. I was sure the cake bandit had taken my cake. 😊

I suggest you make that clear then.

Soon after, she noticed that some food seemed to have gone missing (although she wasn't 100% sure she hadn't eaten it herself).

she suspected that somebody had taken it.
The host didn’t mention if she suspected that somebody had taken it. She just found it weird so she set up a camera.

It's a reasonable infererence.
