This is an entry from my diary. Please check it and correct any mistakes.

My dad was diagnosed with glaucoma two years ago, so my mum's been worried that my brother and I will inherit the illness, and therefore, she asked us to get our eyes checked regularly. For me, I'm much worried about my near-sightedness because my eye doctor told me that the possibility of retina detachment is high when one's nearsighted with over 6 diopters. I'm already 5.

See above. I have no idea what the underlined part means. In the UK, lay people don't talk in terms of "diopters". Is this something to do with the strength of your prescription glasses?

When we get a prescription, it might show -2D which refers to nearsightedness 2 diopters.

Thanks for explaining that. My prescription probably says the same thing but we just don't use the word itself. If someone asked me what my prescription was, I'd say "Left eye minus one point seven five, right eye minus two point two five".
