Which of these sentences are correct?

1) Dogs' lives are short. ✅
2) Dogs' life is short. ❌

3) Life is short for dogs.✅
4) Life is short for a dog. ✅
1, 3 and 4 are grammatically correct. 2 would be correct if you started with "A dog's".

(2) is almost correct (or is debatably correct) with "lifespan" instead of "life," though I'd prefer the related "of"-genitive:

2a) ? Dogs' lifespan is short.
2b) The lifespan of dogs is short.
