Hi,
Is this sentence correct? "would you engage me in the salt, please?" Is it a polite way of saying: "you pass me the salt?"

What made you think it might be correct, bieasy?

Hi.
Is this sentence correct? "Would you engage me in the salt, please?" Is it a polite way of saying (no colon here) "Can/Would you pass me the salt?"

Note my corrections above.

It is a very strange sentence, and certainly doesn't have a meaning anywhere close to the intended one. It might possibly work if you were planning a boxing match or other fight in a ring filled with salt. Otherwise, I can't think of a context where it would work.

That's why I want bleasy's answer to post #3.

Okay, now it makes sense.

The link leads to a clip from a soap opera where a group of people are sitting around the dinner table. A man says to a woman in a very sarcastic tone: "Mallory, would you engage me in the salt, please?"

This is a good case of being passive-aggressive. It's like he's trying to be rude to her by being over-polite. There's obviously some kind of uresolved issue between them.
