Can anyone, please, explain me the exact meaning of the expression like
He fell short of...
I understand it means "to lack" or something like this, but would like to know how to use it correctly (e.g., what follows after "of" and so on, preferably with some examples).
Thanks,
Max.

He fell short of his goal to become a millionaire by age 25.

The company fell short of their goal of 1 million new sales in fiscal 2010.

if something falls short of a particular level or standard, it does not reach it
Sales for the first half of the year fell short of the target.
