Thanks for noting that. I just saw the phrase in the book The Well-Spoken Thesaurus by Tom Heehler. Took my attention, so decided to create a thread about it. It was suggested as an alternative for "for a while". Now, I know it doesn't work.

If Tom Heehler had said "for a considerable period of time", it'd have sounded much better.

You probably mean "caught my attention".
