I'm reading "The story of Black" by John Hobby. I have one question.
It's about a phrase from the book.

" On celluloid, the switch between colour and black-and-white has been worked many times since Eisenstein abruptly jumped into colour stock for a late reel in Part Ⅱ of Ivan the Terrible (1958). "

What does the underlined phrase mean?

Do you know that a full length movie will require multiple reels of film?

Please note my corrections above. Capitalise every major word in titles. Don't put a space after opening quotation marks. Don't put a space before closing punctuation marks.

I know colours are used at the end of film.
But I don't know what "a late" means in that sentence.

Each reel of a feature film lasts about eleven minutes. The late reels would be those near the end. It's not a common collocation.
