Hi.

I love this commercial for Doritos.

I was told by a native speaker of English that "for" here in the sentence means "advertising". But when I looked it up in some dictionaries, I couldn't find its meaning as "advertising". Could you please tell me what it means here in this sentence?

A commercial for Doritos is a commercial advertising Doritos. That doesn't mean you'll find "advertising" as a definition of "for".

A commercial for something is a commercial advertising that product or service

Hmm, what does "for" mean in the sentence in the OP?

It simply means "related to". It tells you that the commercial is about Doritos.

The preposition "for" means "having the purpose of". Obviously the purpose of a commericial is to advertise a product.

Yes, but not here.
You find that use of "for" in such sentences as:
I need the dog for protection.
Industrial diamonds are used for making drill bits.

Obviously, the purpose of a commercial is to advertise a product.
That is why the use of "for" here is not the one you mentioned.
