1) We go to a museum every Sunday.
Is it necessarily the same museum?

2) We go to museums every Sunday?
Could it be a different museum every Sunday, but one per Sunday.

Which would you use if on some Sundays you go to one museum and on others you to two or more?

No, that's why it is called an indefinite article.

No, "museums every Sunday" is plural.

We go to at least one museum every Sunday.

Thank you very much, Tedmc,

That's logical, but if I say:
I watch a movie every Sunday.
would you assume it is the same movie?

No, there is no reason to believe it's the same movie.

You don't have to assume. Go back to the basics - it's either "a"(indefinite) or "the"(definite).

That's an interesting question. For the first scenario, "We go to a museum every Sunday," it doesn't specify the same museum each time. So, it could be any museum without specifying a single one.

Regarding the second one, "We go to museums every Sunday," it implies multiple museums on a Sunday. But if you're visiting just one museum on some Sundays and multiple on others, it might not fully capture that.

Not a teacher.

Welcome to the forum, @smithneil. We hope you find this site an interesting place to be.

Please note that non-teachers are welcome to respond to questions in the Ask a Teacher forum, but we ask you to make it clear that you are not a teacher. I have added this to your post.

I'd probably say "We go to museums on Sundays."

The original could be either multiple museums on any given Sunday, or just different museums different Sundays.
