Hello everyone,

A detective interrogates a woman at the police station. He ask her questions to which she answers. But the detective thinks that the woman doesn't tell the truth and says:

You do know what happens for intentionally giving false testimony, right?

Is "happens" correct here or should it be "will happen" instead?
Or are both versions correct?

Both the simple present and the future tenses are correct. The simple present states a fact. The future expresses a certainty in the future.

He ask her questions, to which she answers.
That's more natural.

But the detective thinks that the woman doesn't tell the truth and says:
The present simple states a fact, so the implies that the detective thinks the woman never tells the truth. You should write "... the woman isn't telling the truth". The present continuous refers to that particular occasion.
You do know what happens for intentionally giving false testimony, right?
Is "happens" correct here or should it be "will happen" instead?
Or are both versions correct?
Only the present simple can work. Again, we are talking about a generality. I would also change the tag to "don't you?"; it's more emphatic than "right?".
