Are the following sentences acceptable or natural? Which is better?

1. Times was always short while we were happy.
2. Happy times always pass especially fast.
 
Are the following sentences acceptable or natural? Which is better?

1. Time was always short while we were happy. Not 'times'
2. Happy times always pass especially fast.
The saying in English (cliched) is, "Time flies when you're having fun." You can express that in other ways.
Both are acceptable, and both sound a bit odd to me.
