What's the English for a certificate you get from a court, that states you were not in prison?

I'm not sure there is such a thing in our judicial system. Why would you need a certificate to prove you were not in jail? If you don't have a criminal record, then it's not necessary to prove you don't have one, I would like to think.
If there are any legal beagles here on the forums, I'll defer to them on this matter, though.

Certificate of good conduct
Criminal Record Certificate
 
Oh, for immigration purposes? That makes more sense to me.
 
In the UK, we have a CRB check (Criminal Records Bureau) which you have to have to get certain jobs.
 
Background check or arrest record.
