I'm a bit lost. Can you tell me how to ________ to the university?

I know that b. is OK, but I don't know why we can't choose c.

Good question!

C would be grammatical, unlike A and D. But it wouldn't mean the same thing as B.

When we say "go to the university," we mean "attend the university": I go to the University of Southern Maine and major in English.

In a different context, "go to the university" would be OK without meaning "attend the university".

I have to go to the university later to pick up my daughter.
