How to use"Had I not~ "to make sentence? Is it the same as "If I had not"?

Hi everyone, I'm not sure about the following usage, please help me:

Is using "Had I not..." the same way as "If I had not..."?
(e.g.
1. Had I not come and helped, you wouldn't have been able to make a meal.
2. If I hadn't come and helped, you wouldn't have been able to make a meal.)

Are these two sentences completely the same? Also, are they correct to say?
Thanks a lot!:)

The two mean exactly the same; the first is rather more formal.
