How was everything or how is everything which one is correct

"How was everything?" or "How is everything?" Which one is correct?
Both are possible. The appropriate one depends on the context.

That context will provide a time reference, which is what will ultimately determine which one to use.

I wouldn't say this depends on context. The choice of tense is determined by what the speaker means. The past tense was is about the past, and the present tense is is about the present.

1. How was everything?
2. How is everything?
Which is correct?

They are very different. The second is the kind of thing that's said every day. However, the first one is something I would not ordinarily expect to hear. That doesn't mean either is incorrect. The context (if there is one) would tell me which is more appropriate.

Your food arrives at the restaurant. 5 minutes later, the server asks "How is everything?"

You're eating. It's happening. Present tense.

You finish the meal. Having coffee. Manager comes over and asks "How was everything?"

You're done. It's over. Past tense.
