How's the food tasting?

Someone said this this to me st a restaurant and I was confused .

They make sense to me. Why were you confused? It's just another way of asking 'Is everything OK?' or 'Are you enjoying your meal?' as your server often does.

Were you confused by the use of the present continuous? If so, it's fairly common in such situations, especially if you are in the process of eating the food you've been served at the time of the question. It would be equally acceptable to say "How does your food taste?" or "How does everything taste?" but it's more common for a waiter to say "How's everything?" or just "How's your food?"
